IPL 2020: What has been Wrong With CSK this Season?

Chennai Super Kings

With only 3 wins from as many as  11 games, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are strongly rooted to the bottom of the points table. The most recent loss against Mumbai Indians has eliminated all chances of them qualifying for the play-offs in IPL 2020.

In their encounter with the Mumbai Indians, the team managed to score 114 runs which looks like a massive total considering they lost 4 wickets in 3 runs.

The Mumbai Indians ended the match in a rather brutal way by winning the game by ten wickets to jump on to the first position in the points table. Never before this were Dhoni’s men defeated by ten wickets.

3 Major Reasons For CSK’s Terrible Condition in IPL 2020

Ageing Players

Already, enough has been said about the players being over aged and lacking fitness and heat on the ground. Coach Steven Fleming himself accepted the fact that most of their players may have run out of juice.

One more theory is that the long pandemic-enforced break might even have put CSK’s old guard on equal footing with the rest of the teams in IPL 2020

Absence of Experienced Players Like Suresh Raina and Harbhajan

Suresh Raina is one of the most successful players in the IPL history. His absence have made a huge difference in the performances of the Chennai Super Kings. An experienced player like Raina strengthens the middle-order and knows how to play according to the situation.

The left-handed batsman pulled out of league before its commencement citing personal reasons.

MS Dhoni’s Poor Form

After the former Indian skipper announced his retirement from international cricket earlier this year, all the cricket fans were super excited for MSD’s return to competitive cricket.

However, may be the long break from competitive cricket had made him rusty. It is really sad to see a legend like Dhoni struggling in the middle to hit a boundary.

Dhoni has been bogged down in the middle overs against spinners, with even his renowned death-overs hitting failing to make itself known.
