Senior batsman Rohit Sharma is all set to make his comeback in the 3rd test against Australia in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Reportedly, he would be the deputy to Ajinkya Rahane who would be leading India in the absence of regular skipper Virat Kohli.
Notably, Rohit didn’t travel along with team India to Australia after the conclusion of IPL 2020. He went to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore and completed his rehabilitation.
The NCA cleared him and he flew to Australia on December 15. Rohit joined the Indian team on December 29 and has been with the side doing the practice drills. He could not play the second test because of the strict quarantine protocols in Australia.
There have been way too many rumours about Virat and Rohit having a rift ever since the 2019 world cup and the rumours also enhanced when Virat complained about lack of clarity on Rohit’s fitness.
Rohit- The New Vice-Captain
BCCI announced the side for the last two test matches against Australia and Rohit has been named the vice-captain. Also, T Natarajan has been named as the replacement for Umesh Yadav. Umesh was ruled out of the 3rd test after a mid-match injury in the second test match.
Now, India and Australia will be in action against each other the third Test from January 7 at Sydney. Star Indian opener, Rohit Sharma will join the side from the third Test. Australian opener David Warner will also join the side from the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar trophy. T Natarajan looks a definite addition to the Indian side too.
Possibilities also say that Mayank Agarwal can make way for Rohit to join the team considering his poor performance in the last two matches.
