The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed in an official statement that they would be announcing the names of the two new IPL teams on October 25th, a day after the much awaited T20 World Cup game between India and Pakistan.
Here is what the statement said:
“The IPL Media Rights tender for the cycle 2023-2027 will be released immediately after the appointment of two new IPL teams which is scheduled to be announced on 25th October 2021.”
So, it is confirmed that IPL 2022 will be a tournament played between 10 teams and the auction preceding that will be a complete blast as the reshuffle of players would be massive.
It is noted that, the BCCI had recently pushed the deadline, making the ITT document available for potential buyers till October 10. The deadline for it formerly was October 5. The board would answer the doubts till September 29 and the auction for the teams, which was to be held on October 17, will now take place in Dubai on October 25.
2000 Crore Set as the Base Price
It was guessed that the price would be massive for owning a team in a league as extravagant as the Indian Premiere League. The Governing council of Indian cricket has therefore set the base price of the teams as INR 2000 Crore each.
Top sports and broadcast consulting agencies like ITW and Group M are among half a dozen parties that have purchased the Invitation To Tender (ITT) documents for the new Indian Premier League (IPL) teams.
