Former South Africa skipper Graeme Smith feels that the pressure of leading the Indian team is taking a toll on Rohit Sharma’s batting in the ongoing TATA IPL 2022.
As we know Mumbai Indians have not won any game out of their 5 matches played so far. Rohit too has been a little scratchy with his batting. Every times he comes on to bat, he gets flying starts, hits some amazing sixes and boundaries but gets dismissed soon after. That is so unlike Rohit Sharma, who is known to score big when his bat gets going.
Here is what Smith said about Rohit leading Mumbai after being given the Indian team’s captaincy.
“This is the first tournament he is captaining MI since becoming India’s white-ball captain. Does that mental strain take a toll on the IPL? It’s something to consider,” Smith said to cricket.com.
“Rohit is the energy at the top of the order. Gets them off to a start, and sets up the game that allows everyone else to play. When he is scoring runs MI are going to win a lot of the time.” added Smith.
“He’s just such a key player. If you look at the line-up, Rohit, an outstanding player, hasn’t found form.
“You’ve got Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav injured for a couple of games. He has now come in and is looking good and then Pollard is the power finisher. You’ve got Brevis there but he’s a young man. That’s a very strong batting line-up.” – Concluded the former South African captain.
Well, that being said Mumbai Indians is one team that is known for its comebacks and Rohit Sharma is exactly the skipper who knows how to design them, so lets see how the future later half of the league turns out for them.
