In some breaking news coming in, the BCCI has announced that the Indian Premier League (IPL 2021) is all set to commence from 9th of April and would be played across as many as 6 venues in India till 30th of May.
The Tournament took place last year in the UAE and was quite successful there too. However, with vaccination drives running all across the country, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to bring the cricketing extravaganza to India.
The League would be hosted across 6 cities, namely: Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai, and Bengaluru. BCCI has already successfully conducted domestic tournaments like Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy in bio-secure bubbles while the ongoing India-England series is also being played in bio-secure conditions.
All eight teams will be staying in bio-bubbles across the six venues and it is still not clear if fans will be allowed in all six venues. The 2020 edition of the tournament was played with no fans in the UAE due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, fans have started returning to the stadiums across all parts of the world.
The tournament being run for 52 days having as many as 60 matches to be played, it would be a task for the BCCI to conduct IPL 2021 smoothly. Mainly because the bio-bubble as discussed many times is already taking a toll on the players.
