Chris Gayle had the greatest time in the IPL 2020 after scoring 99 runs off just 63 balls on Friday against the Rajasthan Royals. The Universe Boss showed everyone why he is the Ultimate T20 great. The Jamaican sure did miss on a very well deserved T20 century but did not fail to enter the record books.
The 41-year old became the first person on the planet to hit 1000 T20 sixes. The best part is that the difference between him and the second person on this list is insanely massive.
However, things did not end well for him and his y=team as Rajasthan comfortably chased down the target in just 17.3 overs and won the match by 7 wickets, courtesy: literally everyone from their Top Order contributing.
Chris Gayle Reprimanded for Breaching IPL Code of Conduct
The failure to score the ton did get onto the nerves of Gayle who swung his bat in frustration after seeing himself being devoid of his first century of the season. As the big fella expressed his frustration on the 22-yard strip, his bat fell out of his hand and fell a few metres away.
Archer and the nearby Rajasthan fielders realised that it was a slip-up and not a deliberate attempt to smash the bat in the ground. Gayle and Archer even had a handshake after the former’s dismissal.
Though it all looked accidental, Gayle was handed a 10% fine on his match fees by the Indian Premier League (IPL) after the match. The 41-year-old also admitted to the Level 1 offence and accepted the sanction.
‘Mr Gayle admitted to the Level 1 offence 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct and accepted the sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,’ an IPL official media release read.
Though it was not specified exactly for what incident Gayle was reprimanded, it is understood that the sanction came in as a result of his reaction to the dismissal on 99.
