Ravichandran Ashwin, India’s wicket-taking machine has made a very endearing remark on teammate Rohit Sharma, who has been India’s best batsman in the England Test Series by a mile.

Ashwin was all praises for the opening batsman, terming him as a special cricketer.

Well, it has been as special a series for Ashwin as it has been for Rohit. In fact, even more as the modern day legend went on to scalp as many as 32 wickets and also score 182 runs. Just to put things into context, he was the highest wicket taker in the series and scored more runs than Kohli, Pujara, Rahane and Gill.

You just have to be a legend to have all those stats in a single series. In a series where the pitches were more talked about than the players, Ashwin and Rohit went on to play to the highest of their levels and defied all odds.

On Rohit being the key batsman for India and also the highest run-scorer for the team in the series, here is what Ashwin had to say about him:

“When you put him on the pedestal of Virender Sehwag and the few other names you mentioned, that’s the right place, that’s where he belongs. We all know that. My history with Rohit goes a long way back, probably 20 years ago, since I have watched him bat, and he has always been a special batsman,” Ravichandran Ashwin said.

“It is not a surprise that you are seeing him on the same lines as Sehwag. It’s not evolution; it’s just a matter of time. Nobody is surprised with Rohit Sharma for doing what he’s doing. He is a special cricketer; he’s a special batsman. I just hope he goes on to win a World Cup for India,” concluded Ravichandran Ashwin.

The next assignment for the men in blue is the 5 match T20 series against the English Team which is all set to begin on the 12th of March.
